Hi all!
My name is Kaia Duke and I will be studying abroad during Fall 2013 in Ghana, West Africa! When I first began this post, I left in exactly 14 days. Now, I leave in 2 and still feel like there's loads to do. BUT. The required passport, vaccinations, various doctors appointments, plane tickets, and visa (which arrived, thank goodness) have all been acquired. I'm meeting up with another student at the gate in Atlanta, so hopefully we won't die before arrival, or at least get too lost.
I'm looking forward to going. The trip itself will be long and annoying at times, but well worth it, of course. The University of Ghana has a competitive swim team which I am hoping to join! And the pool is lovely; have a look below! I have looked at potential classes, but won't be able to choose them until orientation.
I have yet to sit down and really read about the political views, situations, and events in Ghana, but this is on my list of things to do during the many layover hours between flights. Has anyone been to this part of the world before (or London? I'll be spending a week there with friends at the end of the semester and would love suggestions!) and have anything to share? I'm arriving at the end of the cool, rainy season. So, hopefully the heat won't be bad at the beginning and I can acclimate, though I can't hope for near the same with the humidity. According to weather averages/history, it's 70-80% humidity all the time. Fantastic.
Today, I'm doing a second round of packing, making last minute dashes to the store, and helping my sister do the same for going back to school tomorrow. whew!
Also. This is my first time blogging. Exciting! Will there be lots of posts? Ideally :) How sporadic and all over the place will they be? More than I can even hope to describe.
Until next time! :)
